The 10 Leading Causes of Infant Death in the U.S.
 
 
It is very important that the cause of death information be as accurate and complete as possible. 

The data from cause of death statements on death certificates is used to identify the 10 leading causes of infant death in the U.S..  This data is also used to plan for programs to prevent these health problems. 

The 10 leading causes of infant death in the U.S. are 

  • congenital anomalies
  • low birthweight
  • SIDS
  • RDS
  • maternal complications
  • complications of placenta
  • perinatal infections 
  • accidents
  • intrauterine hypoxia and birth asphyxia
  • pneumonia and influenza
