The world is changing so fast it is inconceivable to imagine the problems that students will face in the future. We as teachers must help students develop skills, strategies, and attitudes that will help them manage the massive amounts of information they will encounter. Telecomputing on the Internet involves the use of computers to access information and to communicate and collaborate with others. The Internet is a loosely connected web of computers and computer networks joined together to bring information, ideas, issues, and people to your students. Now your computer can become a window to this new massive data bank of information that may have the most comprehensive effect on education of all the forms of technology because of its ability to end the isolation that has long been common in educational environments. As with most developmental influences, the real success to you and your students will accrue over time.

By using a web browser such as Netscape, users can access global information resources in a variety of formats including text, graphics, video, and audio. These resources, now available to schools, provide the most comprehensive and up to date information ever provided. To make the most of this new adventure:

  • Use your imagination
  • Prepare to explore new places
  • Think of "mistakes" as a chance to learn something new

This gives you and your future students the opportunity to discover up to the minute information on a wide variety of subjects. When students are at the helm of a project and are guided where to go and what to see, they will be in control of their own learning. You as a teacher will empower them to chart their own course.
