spreadsheet

A spreadsheet was originally designed to be the computerized equivalent of an accountant’s ledger. However, spreadsheets have developed into powerful tools that organize, manage, and calculate numerical data for many different applications. A spreadsheet uses numbers much like a word processor uses words. Where a word processor enables the author to enter and edit words and paragraphs until the composition is just right, a spreadsheet allows the user to manipulate numbers and formulas to analyze numerical models. In a school setting, spreadsheets are often used as grade books, but they can also used by sports teams, or math or science teachers. Depending upon the user's needs, spreadsheets can be simple or complex.
