os and wp

The Operating System (OS), whether used by the Macintosh or IBM and/or compatibles, is an essential piece of software for every computer. The purpose of this software is to supply the common commands, such as OPEN, SAVE, SAVE AS, CLOSE, PRINT, etc., to all the application software which the user chooses to run. In addition, the Operating System allows the user the ability to manage the files that the applications create.

The newer versions of the Operating System use a graphical user interface (GUI) that allows the user to manipulate the mouse to control many computer functions by moving the cursor on the screen to select data and commands and/or drag and drop objects to accomplish operations that the user needs done. Consequently, the mouse and/or the keyboard allows the user to communicate with the Operating System while the Operating System uses the screen to communicate the result of these actions .
