Desktop publishing is the merging of text and graphics to create professional-looking documents. Although Apple Works is not desktop publishing software per se, the electronic draw and paint capability of this software will allow you to create newsletters, brochures, curriculum guides, and fliers with a professional touch. Teachers can use both the draw and paint environments for professional productivity or curricular.

This module uses both objects and images (geometric and word processing skills) in AppleWorks and visual design in Inspiration

Basic Object and Image (DP)  Skills needed for this module:
Move objects/images Create objects using at least 3 different draw tools
Eliminate objects/images
Cut, copy, and paste objects/images
Duplicate objects multiple times Fill an object with color, pattern, texture, and gradient
Layer objects where necessary Changepoint size, pattern, and/or texture of lines

Group/ungroup/regroup objects
Eliminate white background around clipart/grahics
Create a text object
Resize, move, dupicate, and eliminate a text object
Use/recolor clipart
Change font,style, color, and size of a text in an object
Use objects/images to create templates
Combine text and graphics in one document
Save graphics files in other formats

Save graphics files in other formats

Practice Exercise: Use the Venn Diagram "drag and drop" Activity instructions to create a a combined draw and paint document. Venn Diagram Lesson Plan shows how Venn Diagrans can be used in the class room. Note: The special text such as graphical and "paint pick-up" can be found in Experimenting with Images . Editing a picture may also be done in GraphicConverter .

Application: Create a drag'n'drop diagram based on the stated criteria that displays your topic. See Drag'n'Drop activity structures for sample ideas.
